LIL SOLID 2.0. THE NEW GENERATION OF GADGETS FOR HEATING TOBACCO FROM IQOS

It has been about a year since IQOS introduced the lil SOLID monolithic tobacco heating system in September 2020. We liked the device and we even reviewed the first lil. But the developers decided not to stop there and, less than a year later, in July 2021, the company released a new, more pumped version of lil SOLID 2.0.

Let's start with a little help for those who do not yet know what kind of gadget it is. lil SOLID is a tobacco heating system developed by the Korean manufacturer KT&G and presented in collaboration with the IQOS brand. According to the principle of operation, Lil is also similar to IQOS - the gadget heats tobacco to a temperature of 300-350 ℃, and does not set it on fire. Due to this, the tobacco in the sticks does not burn, but emits tobacco aerosol, which is inhaled by the user.

Let's go back to the characteristics of lil SOLID 2.0. One of the main features of the new lil is its high battery power, thanks to which you can use as many as 25 sticks per charge. And this is significantly more than in any other system for heating tobacco, be it IQOS, glo, Jouz or the old lil SOLID, which have a maximum battery life of 20 sticks (that is, one pack).

You can now use 3 sticks in a row. After the third, the gadget will start an automatic cooling mode, which will last 3 minutes 30 seconds. When the cooling is complete, you can start using three sticks in a row again.

In order to remove the stick after use, you must first rotate it more than 3 times in one direction, and then remove it. This will prevent tobacco residues from entering the chamber.

As for the sticks themselves, everything remains the same. The device works with sticks of two brands - Fiit and HEETS. Choose from 17 flavors, including the premium HEETS Dimensions range.

Another interesting feature is that in the new generation the device has changed the heating technology. And if the first lil Solid heated tobacco in sticks using resistive heating technology, then in the new version they used induction heating technology with a needle. This means that there is a metal winding inside the heating needle, which generates an electromagnetic field under the influence of current. And the electromagnetic waves, in turn, heat the surface of the needle. Conceptually, in terms of user experience, nothing has changed. But still, thanks to this technology, the tobacco in the stick heats up more evenly along its entire length.

The connector has also changed - instead of micro-USB, a modern and more convenient Type C appeared in the gadget. The gadget itself is fully charged for the same time as its predecessor - about 2 hours.

The battery level is indicated by a light indicator located on the only button of the gadget. If the indicator glows blue, the battery is 60-100% charged. Cold blue - 30-60% charge left. Orange - less than 30% charge left. But if the indicator light turns red, the battery is completely discharged. It's time to charge the gadget.

What else is important to say? The new version of lil SOLID has simplified cap removal. The stick chamber cap and lid are now integrated into one piece. And from now on, the cap is removed along with the cover of the stick heating chamber, which is much more convenient both in use and in cleaning the gadget.

By the way, about cleaning. There have been some changes here too. The cleaning brush has become double-sided. From one side it now looks like a cleaning spatula, which is designed to clean the heating element. On the other hand, it is like a brush for cleaning the stick chamber itself.

Finally, let's talk about design. The new version of the gadget is slightly smaller than its predecessor. Its dimensions are 105.7x30.8x21.4 in comparison with the previous 107x31.7x22. The difference is not significant, but still there.

The weight has also changed. In the new generation, lil has become a little heavier - 99 gr. instead of the previous 84 gr. Most likely, the weight has increased due to the higher capacity of the battery. Other improvements may have had an impact, though.

Leel's side has a removable magnetic panel. So, you can replace it if you scratch the device or want to make it more exclusive with the bright color of the panel.

The device came out in two colors - blue and black. The variety of choices is not great, but it can be forgiven due to the pleasant design, soft-touch coating and excellent technical characteristics of the gadget.
